In-plane switching (IPS) is a type of liquid crystal display (LCD) technology that allows better off-axis viewing than TN panels. IPS LCDs are faster and more responsive than TN panels. This technology has been in development for years, but it's only recently become affordable in the high-end monitor market.

TFT technology is the one that is used in the LCD. It is called Active Matrix which differentiates from Passive Matrix. A TFT substrate consists of a matrix of pixels and ITO electrode each with a TFT device, so it is called array. Thousands or millions of these pixels together create an image on the display
