IPS TFT

IPS screens provide greatly enhanced viewing angles over standard TFT displays. We affectionately refer to this as the "IPS glow," and it's what sets IPS panels apart from TN (Twisted Nematic) screens. While TN monitors have darkening of their brightness and color at off-angles (best viewed perpendicular), IPS displays retain their colors. When viewed from a wide range of angles, they only lose brightness.

IPS, or In-Plane Switching, is a type of display. More specifically, an IPS panel is a type of TFT LCD (or "active matrix" LCD). A TFT LCD uses light modulating properties from unlit liquid crystals for providing a flat panel or video display. The two most common types of TFT LCD panels are TN and IPS displays.
